Safety Of Natural Alkaline Water

By Christine Edwards

A lot has been said about alkaline water, especially the health benefits that are associated with it. However, many people do not understand what it means by alkaline water. To begin with, the alkaline in the term refers to the pH level of the water. Natural alkaline water has a pH value that is higher than that of regular water.

It is often claimed that neutralization of body acids can be done by the alkalinity in alkaline water. Seven is the pH value of ordinary water. This makes it naturally neutral without any basic or acidic properties. The same is not true for this substance because it ranges between 8 and 9 on the pH scale. That implies that it is a base.

The substance can be natural or artificial. Naturally occurring alkaline water is formed when waters pass over rocks and other substance, picking up minerals as they pass. The minerals increase the alkalinity level. Today, there are companies that make products called ionizers which can be used to transform neutral waters into this product. This transformation occurs through a process called electrolysis. The functioning of ionizers has always come under criticism as researchers claim that it is not supported by quality research.

One can buy the product from various sources including health food stores and groceries. For those who believe in ionizers, the devices can be bought from large chain stores, shopping malls, and sellers of similar equipment. The substance can also be made at home. This can be achieved by adding a few drops of lemon juice into a glass of water. Lemons juice contains some minerals that are capable of changing the composition of water.

One can also make the product at home by adding a few pH drops into water. Only distilled waters should be used to make the product. Additives contained in tap and bottled waters make them unsuitable for use. The additives may react with lemon juice or pH drops or it may result in unknown consequences. Regular drinking of low-mineral waters have been warned against by the World Health organization, WHO.

The substance has received claims of having numerous health benefits. Claims state that is can regulate body pH, prevent cancer and related chronic illnesses, and slow aging. However, research insist that most individual are well off drinking ordinary water. The claims have no shred of support in the field of science.

However, there are some scientific research studies that have established that the product indeed has some health benefits on people. A study conducted in 2012 concluded that the substance is helpful in deactivating pepsin in the body. Another study concluded that the substance was good for people suffering from high cholesterol levels, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Research has not associated the waters with any medical problem. In fact, they are safe to drink it due to the mineral content. It is the bogus claims of manufacturers and marketers that people need to ignore because they are false.
