Wheat beers have become very popular in recent years and these are also now available to the home brewer.

When you have selected your brew you need to decide how you are going to make it. Beer kits can be found and these are a good place to start as only water and sugar needs to be added to start brewing. Others may want to source each ingredient separately and make a batch to their own secret recipe.

When deciding to brew at home you will need to buy some specialist equipment before you start. Barrels will be needed to ferment the liquid in and bottles to transfer the beer into when it has gone through initial fermentation. Plastic tubing, bottle capping tools and some sort sterilization fluid will also be needed to clean your equipment before and after making a batch.

A good place to start when looking for equipment and kits is a home brew store in your neighborhood. These shops will have all of the items you need to get going and will be able to help you with your selections. The experienced staff in these stores will also be happy to offer any advice on equipment buying and beer making techniques.

Another option is to buy your supplies from an online brewing supply company and there a many of these now in business. They will have large stocks of kits, natural ingredients and equipment. Other items will also be available to you such as DVD's, books and additives to enhance your brews. A lot of the web sites will also feature recipe pages and have discussion boards allowing brewers to exchange their ideas and results with other site members.

There are also clubs that you can join which is a good idea for people new to the hobby. These groups will hold seminars to teach new techniques and also you may get discounts from brewing suppliers when buying through the club. Some organizations will have mini beer festivals so that others can sample your brews and this can be a good way to try different beers. It also allows you to meet and speak with other members to swap ideas and experiences.

One essential thing to consider when fermenting at home is safety and good hygiene procedures. It is imperative that all equipment is kept clean and in good order otherwise it will affect your batch and ruin the product.
