Suitable Beef Breeds Are Irish Black Cattle

By Annabelle Holman

Human population keeps on growing. This calls for an equal growth in size of food to sustain it. For this reason, several persons have specialized in different areas of food production. Amongst these are the specialists with knowledge and drive to generate more protein food. This is where the gene scientists who came up with Irish black cattle belong. Together with other committed fellows, they have done both Americans and the world a lot of good.

Since the early times of twentieth century, doctor lush and company had been engaged in the search for cattle with superior beef quality. With aid of skills and knowledge, a team of scientists headed by Lush used genes primarily obtained from exotic breed to produce Irish blacks. These were exotic breeds imported from without America. By late years of this same century, Boney made a break through making the primary works of Doctor Lush a success.

Physically, Irish blacks are completely black as their name suggest. Occasionally, a red calf may be born amongst blacks. Frame size may be described as average and with sound legs. A closer view reveals average muscled body of a strong animal.

Farmers keeping this same animal have since then joined hands to form an association. It has its vision and mission with one main objective of protecting their interests in their livestock. It is a nonprofit making organization which allows new members to join. However, before one becomes a member, a gene examination has to be carried out to verify identity of animals in question.

Rearing Irish blacks come with many advantages and similar experience come when consuming their beef. Ever since they came into being, farmers have followed a relatively strict line-breeding. Results are therefore achievement of pure breeds which are directly linked to quality of calves produced and consequently their final yield.

Keeping these cattle has made life a little easier for farmers. All of them thrive well in every part of American states. This is regardless of altitude; whether highlands or low lands. It can adequately resist common diseases as brisket. Similarly, a variation in climatic conditions as humidity and cold does not impair its survival rate. The animal has adequate hair to withstand winter times. In addition, one needs not to worry about feeding it; the animals can feed on any grass present in the environment.

Farmers receive some additional benefits while keeping a herd like Irish blacks. These include a short gestation period and proven high fertility rates. Short gestation implies that one does not wait too long to get additional heads in the herd while high fertility allows for fewer bulls to serve many cows. For instance, one bull can serve up to 140 cows.

In summary, a healthy nation needs healthy products. These can only be sustained by healthy and reliable sources of food. This way therefore, breeds like one in this discussion should be given a chance by all interested parties; be it the farmer or consumer. Producing and consuming related products is convenient and rewarding to all parties.
