How The Benefits Of Olive Oil Can Assist An Older Audience

By Rob Sutter

It seems like the older you become, the more focus that there has to be when it comes to eating the right way. Maybe your diet was not the best when you were younger and staying true to it has had its negative outcomes later on in life. It's one of those things which you won't be able to escape, so it's important to eat well throughout your life. It's why I would recommend the benefits of olive oil to those who may be climbing in terms of age.

I don't think that many people can say anything against the benefits of olive oil, especially when a much older audience is taken into account. The oil has a number of purposes and it can be done throughout cooking and even a simple dressing can prove to be quite useful as well. These methods will most definitely be the ones worth utilizing in the long run. Authorities like Flavor Your Life can tell you more about this strong component as well, the information proving to be valuable.

The Olive Oil Times recently posted a piece about a study which was shown in the Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics. The study consisted of 62 people and each of them fell into the age bracket of 65 and 96 years old; they would then go on to be placed into two groups. The control group would be able to keep up with their diet plans as normal while the alternate group had to ingest 50ml of EVOO on a daily basis. While this study was interesting enough, I wanted to see results.

This would go on for a total of six weeks before both groups came back with the aforementioned results. The group which utilized the EVOO saw fewer cases of raised cholesterol while the levels of HDL increased. For those who don't know, HDL is regarded as "good cholesterol," which can also be related to monounsaturated fats which are native to this oil as well. Finally, the antioxidant status in this group was much higher, which only helps to round out the benefits nicely.

The elderly have definitely reaped the benefits of olive oil but what can be done in order to make this an even greater success? It's been said that the Mediterranean diet is the best regimen for older folks to take up because of how many healthful properties come into play. Things like produce and lean meat all seem to come into tandem and the results are, to say the least, phenomenal. It's no wonder why this one is recommended for those who have to keep better tabs on their health.
