What You Need To Know About Halal MRE

By Andrea Davidson

A Halal MRE is a ready meal in a box. The halal version is the type that is suitable for Muslims. The reason for this is because they have been produced to the high standards of preparation and hygiene that the religion requires. Many people are able to eat these types of meals and not just those that follow Islam.

The army is one of the largest customers. They order the product because it's very easy to transport, meaning that troops can carry them as part of their rations. Another thing the army likes is the fact that they can be eaten hot or cold. It makes them perfect for people that will not be near a kitchen but may need to eat.

In emergency situations, such as wars and natural disasters, these products have been responsible for saving countless lives. People love the fact that you can get all your daily nutrition from them without the need for water, electricity or gas. Hiker and campers often pack them for this exact reason, because they never know when an emergency will arise.

You do not have to be a Muslim to eat these meals. Many non-Muslims happily consume all sorts of foods that have been prepared in the traditional halal way. Many people like the food because it's preparation follows certain hygienic and culinary standards that are not present in non-halal foods. What sets this apart is that usually the kitchens specialize in preparing and serving food for people that follow the Islamic faith.

It is a fact that the MRE, whilst often eaten cold, can actually be consumed hot. If you are a camper out in the hot sun then all you need do is leave the foil packet in the sun for 30 minutes and the food should be hot enough to eat. If you're a soldier and have a Hummer or other vehicle, place the foil packet on a hot engine for ten minutes for the same effect.

What people need to remember is that kosher food and halal food, whilst similar in some regards, are quite different in others. Therefore, it would not be a good idea to give a Muslim a kosher MRE or give a Jew an MRE meant for a Muslim. They prepare food to different standards and eat different types. For instance, some Jewish food is made with alcohol, something that is strictly forbidden in the Islamic faith.

This foods not only dispense with the need for kitchens, they can be carried around by the soldier when away from the base. They contain all the calories and nutrition the troops need to keep them going. Most boxes have a number of courses in them. For example, the average box will contain a starter course, a side dish, a main course, a drink, a snack and a dessert. All of which are made to the very high standards required by Muslims.

A Halal MRE, while mainly for Muslims, can be eaten by many other people. Its importance in the army cannot be underestimated. It is easy to transport and versatile enough for soldiers to eat it hot of cold when away from the main base.
