How You Can Trick Your Metabolism To Help Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting A Plateau

By Bob Steele

If you're like a lot of people out there, you might have tried a number of diets to different degrees of success. You probably lost a bit of weight, got to a certain point and then, whatever you tried, couldn't lose any more. This plateau that most people hit, is typical with just about all diet plans. There exists a new way of preventing this plateau by trying to deceive your metabolism.

You've probably already dealt with the plateau problem which will probably have caused you a lot of discouragement and ended more than one diet plan. This is a strange thing that transpires to even the most successful dieters sometime close to the third or fourth week of the diet they have picked. Until that point the weight seems to come off with no trouble and then it just stops and nothing really works to help the body shed more pounds. This is how your body does respond to all of the changes you've been forcing upon it. Your body decelerates your rate of metabolism when you get to this point because it wants to protect you from accidental starvation. This, then, will keep you from being able to drop more pounds.

This is what makes a lot of people believe that they simply aren't capable of achieving their weight loss goals and they quit. This is when a lot of people return to eating and start getting back their weight usually more than they lost in the first place. The best way to stop this is to choose a diet where your calories merely get shifted. It means that you eat a different number of calories each day which can help fool your metabolism. If this works on your body it is not going to get into "protective" mode. It will keep your body's metabolism rolling at its present rate as opposed to going slower and you'll continue dropping pounds. When you reach this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will keep working the way it was designed to.

It's not hard to work this plan into your daily regimen. One of the more widely used methods of calorie shifting is the 14 day method. In this plan, you adhere to your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you eat the things you actually would like to eat. You can switch your foods during the day and fool your metabolism and then for three days eat what you want to eat and avoid the plateau. This really is very handy in keeping you on track with the more stringent dieting programs. You can actually continue repeating these 14 days until you feel content with the amount of weight you have dropped.

The 2 day plan is another good plan in which you eat as usual for one day and then trim your calories by 20% all the way up to 35%. You do this every two days for as long as it takes you to reach your weight loss objectives. This program is fantastic for helping you get past your plateau and lose the weight you want to lose so you should really look it over.
