Sweet Coloured Rice In China

Today's Friday's Featured Food comes from China once again. We know how much the Asians love their rice, but how about some special coloured rice with sugar added to it? Throw in a walk to some gorgeous waterfalls called Jiulong, near Luoping in the Yunnan Province and you're sorted. Here's a bit about Chinese sweet coloured rice.

Where can you buy Chinese sweet coloured rice?

The Chinese coloured rice is not as common as you would think in China and you need to look around to get it. One province which you can definitely find it is Yunnan. Head to the epic Jiulong Waterfalls near the city of Luoping in Yunnan and on the walk up to the waterfalls there are stalls selling it.

It is very sugary, it's hot and of course this rice is colourful, it's a really different style of rice to the normal.

What price is this sweet and coloured Chinese rice?

Well since it's from a market stall, it will be cheap. Don't expect to pay any more than around 5 Chinese Yuan (RMB) for a serving!

In terms of taste, what's this Chinese rice like?

It's definitely worth tasting - very sweet and sugary obviously. It's very easy to eat and despite not having much of a strong flavour, you will be impressed by it. The colours also make it easy on the eye as you scoff it. It comes in pink, purple, yellow and turquoise.

How cool is travelling in China?

This is the world's most populated country and it is a gem of a place to travel around. All you need is a backpack, a guidebook and a sense of wonder! It's a great place for backpacking and getting away from the crowds.

So head to China and get trying the excellent sugary rice which is coloured. You should go to the Yunnan Province to buy it. You might just love them!
